Anbasja Blanken was born and raised in Curacao ( The Netherlands Antilles)
At the age of 13 she moved with her family to The Netherlands where she started
studying fashion tailloring in 2005 at Friesland College in Leeuwarden.
In her second year she interned under Kentroy Yearwood at the Intoxica-jeans
label in Amsterdam where she was a design and studio assistant.
In 2009, she graduated with her collection ‘The Future Generation’, which won
the people’s choice award for best collection and presentation of the year.
In the meantime, she had started her bachelor’s degree at the Hogeschool voor
de Kunsten (HKU), which offered her the opportunity to intern again as a design
and studio assistant at the renowned fashion house, Viktor & Rolf. There she got
to experience the entire design and production process for the spring/summer
2012 ready-to-wear collection. She graduated in 2014 with her collection, ‘Shakhinah Glory’, which was selected as a finalist for the ‘Lichting’ G-Star award. Following that, she was selected for a variety of exhibitions, including the Modefabriek and Campaign of Wool. Her work has also gained international attention. In 2014 she was invited to present her collection at the SOUTH3632N fashion festival in Cádiz, Spain. After that Blanken was chosen to be part of the MOAM collective platform. For six months, she was coached by top fashion names like Cecile Narinx, Mart Visser, Claes Iversen and Georgette Koning and in July 2015, the collection was presented in the Rijksmuseum.
After this she founded her own line ‘Anbasja Blanken’, which she debuted at the 24th edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam in Januari 2016. The collection was received very positively by press and audience. After this Blanken decided to create a second label in which she focuses on one garment; trousers. In Juli 2016 year she presented ‘ALA BLANKA’ ; luxury trousers for strong women. Again at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam. Also this collection was very well received by the press and media: “Wearing pants was never as ladylike as it is with Anbasja Blanken”
In October 2016 Blanken was invited to attend the Global Denim Award 2016. For her new glow -in-the-dark denim collection she collaborated with Italian mill ITV-Denim. Anbasja Blanken won the ‘Best Collection’ prize at the annual Global Denim Awards and got amazing press and social media response from all over the world. Januari 2017 she will present a new collection for Anbasja Blanken at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam on the main stage, the Gashouder.
